9 Ways to Think Like a Successful Entrepreneur

Blog+Motivation+Image.jpg

The world of entrepreneurialism requires grit and determination. According to a statistic cited by the Wall Street Journal, approximately ¾ of start-ups fail. Even the world’s most successful entrepreneurs are not immune to failure in early business attempts. Walt Disney’s first animation company, Laugh-O-Gram Studio, was bankrupt within two years.

After numerable setbacks and blunders, Disney was able to say “All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realise it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”

The most integral ingredients to growing a business are hard work, courage and a willingness to learn. Having the right approach can be the difference between sinking or soaring as a start-up.

In arduous times it can be useful to look toward the wisdom and experience of the successful entrepreneurs who have preceded us. In doing so I’ve listed some powerful quotes that have strengthened my resolve in growing Forestlyn. I hope they inspire and motivate you also.

  1. “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” – Walt Disney, creator of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

  2. “If you can offer a free tier that provides a lot of value, it will naturally help your product spread much more rapidly” – Melanie Perkins, co-founder of Canva.

  3. “Stone Age, Bronze Age. Iron Age. We define entire epics of humanity by the technology they use.” – Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix.

  4. “Everyone has ideas. They may be too busy or lack the confidence or technical ability to carry them out. But I want to carry them out. It is a matter of getting up and doing it” – James Dyson, founder and chief executive of Dyson Ltd.

  5. “We led with our conviction rather than our rational because rational said it was impossible” – Daniel Ek, co-founder of Spotify.

  6. “It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste” – Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company.

  7. “In this ever-changing society, the most powerful and enduring brands are built from the heart. They are real and sustainable. Their foundations are stronger because they are built with the strength of the human spirit, not an ad campaign. The companies that are lasting are those that are authentic.” – Howard Schultz, founder of Starbucks.

  8. “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” – Steve Jobs, founder of Apple.

  9. “Happiness is the secret ingredient for successful businesses. If you are a happy company it will be invincible.” - Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group.

Core to an entrepreneurial mindset is a hunger to learn, grow and innovate. Looking to like-minded entrepreneurs for inspiration and motivation has been an essential part of the process. I hope that these pieces of wisdom can help you in the same way they helped me.
