Research and deep technology can be difficult to communicate outside specialist circles. Scientists and early-stage founders need to explain complex work accurately, while also making the problem, opportunity and human impact clear to people who do not share their technical background. CSIRO ON wanted another meaningful way for alumni and founders to communicate their work to the public, helping emerging research reach beyond the lab, the startup ecosystem and the immediate innovation community.
Forestlyn developed and hosted a multi-format content partnership through Emerging Tech Unpacked, using research-led interviews and accessible storytelling to draw out both the science and the people behind it. We partnered with the CSIRO ON Innovation Program to feature six alumni across long-form podcast conversations, researched, prepared and hosted each interview to make complex subjects accurate, engaging and relevant to non-specialist audiences, and drew out the founder or researcher's origin story alongside the technology, scientific challenge and potential real-world impact. We produced 42 content assets across full podcast episodes, video Shorts/Reels and social-media posts, building a repeatable content model that extended the value of every expert conversation across multiple formats and channels. Content spanned health, climate, biotechnology, mental health and aged-care innovation, with featured topics including antimicrobial resistance, engineering yeast for sustainability, gaming and mental health, decarbonisation, ovarian-cancer detection and technology-enabled aged care.
The partnership gave CSIRO ON alumni and founders a credible platform to share their work in language that wider audiences could understand and relate to. Across six interviews and 42 content assets, Forestlyn translated deep-tech innovation into stories about real problems and possible solutions, from faster diagnosis of antimicrobial resistance and earlier detection of ovarian cancer to low-carbon technology, biotechnology, mental-health support and dementia-friendly care. The content reached listeners in 64 countries and was viewed 10,000+ times online, extending the visibility of emerging Australian research and helping scientist entrepreneurs communicate the relevance of their work beyond their specialist fields.
Outcomes
It's been really lovely working with Lucy, producer of the Emerging Tech Unpacked podcast. She is extremely knowledgeable and relates really well to our researcher community. Lucy draws out researchers' experiences and translates the stories behind their work in a way that helps them relate to the wider community. She is also able to draw out the origin story of the researcher themselves, alongside the work they are doing.
